Case studies showcasing the impact of our research
Researchers from the NIHR HPRU for Blood Borne and Sexually Transmitted Infections contributed four studies to the NHS England LGBT+ Health Evidence Review, highlighting barriers to care and unmet needs. The evidence supports more inclusive NHS policy and service design, improving access, equity and health outcomes for LGBT+ communities.
The BEACON study explored introducing the 4CMenB vaccine to prevent gonorrhoea among GBMSM. The findings informed the 2025 national vaccination programme rollout and are expected to increase uptake, reduce transmission and support antimicrobial resistance prevention.
This study identified practical ways to make sexual health services more inclusive for trans and gender-diverse people. The findings informed a workbook for sexual health clinics, supporting more equitable access to prevention, testing and treatment, reducing health inequalities and improving sexual health outcomes.
