Jodie worked as a sexual health specialist nurse for 20 years, developing an interest in research after seeing how it impacted HIV care, prognosis and prevention. She completed a masters in health research in 2024, and following this was successful in obtaining an NIHR doctoral fellowship, studying at UCL's institute for global health.

Jodie is the current nurse representative to the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV, is a member of the BASHH Blood-borne viruses specialist interest group, and is on the editorial board for the International Journal of STD and AIDS.

Her current research uses mixed methods to explore the barriers and enablers of access to sexually transmitted infection prevention for heterosexual men who have sex with men living in coastal communities.
