Researchers

Holly Mitchell is an Principal Scientist at UKHSA who has worked extensively on the national surveillance and prevention of STIs, HIV and viral hepatitis. She currently leads a national bio-behavioural survey of HIV and viral hepatitis among people who inject drugs. Holly completed her PhD at UCL through the NIHR HPRU where she used classical and molecular epidemiological methods to identify and characterise the sexual transmission of enteric pathogens in men who have sex with men (MSM). Her current HPRU research projects build on the findings from her PhD which used classical and molecular epidemiological methods to identify and characterise the sexual transmission of enteric pathogens in men who have sex with men (MSM). She is particularly interested in how the use of molecular data, combined with clinical and epidemiological data, can further our understanding of sustained transmission and the development of antimicrobial resistance to inform the delivery of appropriate interventions. Her research has close links with the NIHR HPRU in Gastrointestinal Infections.
