Dr Hibo Asad

Hibo Asad is a Principal Scientist in the Blood Safety, Hepatitis, STI and HIV Division at UKHSA. She is an infectious disease epidemiologist with experience in surveillance strengthening, applied research, healthcare epidemiology and emergency response across local, national and international public health contexts. Hibo completed a PhD with the BBSTI HPRU investigating health outcomes and engagement in care of young people with perinatal HIV transitioning from paediatric to adult care.  

Her current HPRU work focuses on outbreak preparedness, including projects strengthening systems for enhanced surveillance, outbreak detection and evaluating control group selection for BBSTI outbreaks.  

Hibo’s research interests include health inequalities, women’s and migrant health, and using epidemiological, clinical and lived experience data to assess and address inequities in access, engagement and outcomes.
