Mapping multi-morbidity in HIV infection
As life expectancy for PWH has increased, concern has shifted towards the management of multiple non-AIDS co-morbidities, which may impacting on quality-of-life and mental health, a person’s ability to take ART, risk of viral failure and onward HIV transmission. To provide effective interventions and management strategies, we need to understand the relative contributions of a range of sociodemographic, behavioural, psychosocial and clinical factors. We described the clustering of co-morbidities in this population and will describe the trajectories, predictors and impact of these clusters on outcomes.
Recognition that co-morbid events may share pathways, and profiles of those at increased risk of multi-morbidity, may support the development of optimal interventions and appropriate commissioning of healthcare services, and the large-scale public health interventions to benefit those with HIV as well as the general population.
