Dr Holly Mitchell
Principal Scientist
Theme A: Understanding risk and risk reduction for STIs and BBVs
Public Health England
Holly is a Principal Scientist in the Blood Safety, Hepatitis, STI and HIV division within the National Infection Service at Public Health England where she is the scientific lead for HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), including the PrEP Impact Trial and monitoring and evaluation activities. Prior to this, Holly worked at a national level on the surveillance and prevention of STIs.
Holly completed her PhD at UCL where she used classical and molecular epidemiological methods to identify and characterise the sexual transmission of enteric pathogens in men who have sex with men (MSM). Her current HPRU research projects build on the findings from her PhD. She is particularly interested in how the use of molecular data, combined with clinical and epidemiological data, can further our understanding of sustained transmission and the development of antimicrobial resistance to inform the delivery of appropriate interventions. Her research has close links with the NIHR HPRU in Gastrointestinal Infections.
